Blogging becomes a
trend. It is already trendy among the younger generations as it is
becoming popular among people of our age. I meant the baby boomers and the
seniors. The reason for this is people like to express
themselves. The blog provides a very user friendly platform for users
of different age groups.
The recent blogs have more videos and photos where as three years
ago blogs contained mainly text. The pictures especially
videos give your blog the life motion. People tend to like them more and
more. However, the search engines even the mega huge search engines like
Google and Yahoo they still like blogs rich in text especially those with original,
informative and useful content.
In order to find out more about this I have done a little experiment with my
blog ... David Au' Blog. One day, I posted
an article. First I typed the article title. Then I typed and posted the article
body. I checked the categories box. Put a tag there. Put down the keywords there. Before I saved this article I inserted a picture
on the very top of the article immediately under the article title. I
then published this article.
I used Twitter to tweet this article disseminating the article to people
who like tweeting. This article also appeared in my Facebook as I posted
it on my Twitter page. What I did then was to find out whether this
article appeared in the Google search page. I typed in Google search the article
title. I could not find it on the Google search pages. I tried several pages but with no result.
What I did next was to remove the picture to another location. It was in
the middle portion of the article. I published it
again. As I checked the Google search by typing in the article
title in the Google search box. The article immediately came up with its
title in bold letters on the Google search first page. (it may sometimes takes 1 = 2 days). You
can try this experiment. Through this simple exercise, I realized
search engines love text at the top of the page and not the picture. Search engines like fresh content. Therefore constant postings are essential. One posting per day would keep your blog always fresh like the Tim Hortons slogan. You like fresh coffee. Likewise he search engines like fresh content. They would spider your blog regularly and more often for the fresh content and updating . Your blog post coming up on the Google search first page is more likely. Your chance to be found in the net world is enhanced. And this way your blog becomes more and more popular.
As a search engine visits your blog, it crawls on it like a spider. The first place it goes to is the header for the blog name its brief description and the horizontal menu. It goes to the article title and the opening paragraph. It does not like picture in this location. It also goes to the sidebar to check for the tags, categories, etc. These are the important locations the search engines would like to search for key information about your blog. Generally it is from top to bottom. The following video by Google would tell you in more details how search engine works.
Here is a video by Google:
For people who are beginning to blog I would recommend Blogger. It is
free provided by Google. Google acquired Blogger couple of years
ago. I still keep a Blogger account. Here is my Blogger blog
.
As people get more experience, they would go for the more advanced blogging
platform. They are:
- Wordpress
- Movable
I would continue on this topic shortly. Have a good day.
