Ravi Zacharias states that a coherent worldview must be able to satisfactorily answer four questions: that of origin, meaning of life, morality, and destiny. He says that while every major religion makes exclusive claims about truth, the Christian faith is unique in its ability to answer all four of these questions. He routinely speaks on the coherency of the Christian worldview, saying that Christianity is capable of withstanding the toughest philosophical attacks. Zacharias asserts that the apologist must argue from three levels: the theoretical, to line up the logic of the argument; the arts, to illustrate; and "kitchen table talk", to conclude and apply.
In particular, Zacharias's own style of apologetic focuses predominantly on Christianity's answers to life's great existential questions, with logical and scientifically inclined defense of God. In some discussion Zacharias appropriates to scientific matters, he answers the question of human origin. He has voiced skepticism over what he believes to be inadequate empirical evidence in the fossil records for an honest endorsement of the theory of evolution. He also questions the claim that evolution is compatible with the second law of thermodynamics, quoting the two to be inconsistent and irreconcilable. This stems from the belief that the second law of thermodynamics dictates that all closed systems in the universe will, unless acted upon by some external influence, tend to disorder. This notion, says Zacharias, does not conform to the key tenets of evolution, which postulate a marked increase in the order of biological life.
Her
name is Katie Kirkpatrick, 21 yrs old. Next to her is her fiancé, Nick,
23. This picture was taken prior to their wedding January 11th, 2005.
Katie has terminal cancer and spends hours in chemotherapy. Here Nick
awaits while she finishes one of the sessions...
Even
in pain and dealing with her organs shutting down, with the help of
morphine, Katie took care of every single part of the wedding
planning. Her dress had to be adjusted several times due to Katie 's
constant weight loss.
An
expected guest was her oxygen tank. Katie had to use it during the
ceremony and reception. The other couple in this picture is Nick's
parents, very emotional with the wedding and to see their son marrying
the girl he fell in love when he was an adolescent.
Katie, in a wheel chair listening to her husband and friends singing to her. In
the middle of the party, Katie had to rest for a bit and catch her
breath. The pain does not allow her to stand for long period of time. Katie
died 5 days after her wedding. To see a fragile woman dress as bride
with a beautiful smile makes you think... Happiness is always there
within reach, no matter how long it lasts. Lets enjoy life and don't
live a complicated life.Life is too short.
Work as if it was your first day. Forgive as soon as possible. Love without boundaries. Laugh without control and never stop smiling. Please pray for those suffering from cancer. Keep this going. Now you're on the clock!!!!In 9 minutes something will make you happy. ;-) But you have to tell the essay to 9 people !!!!
Ravi Kumar Zacharias (born 1946) is an Indian-born, Canadian-American evangelical Christian apologist and evangelist. Zacharias is the author of numerous Christian books, including Gold Medallion Book Award winner Can Man Live Without God? and bestsellers Light in the Shadow of Jihad and The Grand Weaver. He is the founder and chairman of the board of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, host of the radio programs Let My People Think and Just Thinking (heard weekly and daily, respectively, on Christian stations across the U.S.), and visiting professor at Wycliffe Hall of Oxford, where he teaches apologetics and evangelism. Just checked into Google Trend, and found the breaking news that China just passed the US and the world with the reveal of the world's fastest supercomputer (above picture). The supercomputer Tianhe-1A is located at the National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin. It moves it past Cray's 2.3 petaflops Jaguar located at Oak Ridge National Lab in Tenness
Although the official list of the top 500 fastest machines, which comes out every six months, is not due to be completed by Mr. Dongarra until next week, he said the Chinese computer "blows away the existing No. 1 machine." He added, "We don't close the books until Nov. 1, but I would say it is unlikely we will see a system that is faster."
Officials from the Chinese research center, the National University of Defense Technology, are expected to reveal the computer's performance on Thursday at a conference in Beijing. The center says it is "under the dual supervision of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Education."
The race to build the fastest supercomputer has become a source of national pride as these machines are valued for their ability to solve problems critical to national interests in areas like defense, energy, finance and science.

I think this is one of the neatest things I have ever read. To the women I'm sending this to: Thank you for being you.
God doesn't give you the people you want; He gives you the people you NEED... to help you, to hurt you, to leave you, to love you and to make you into the person you were meant to be.
I LOVE YOU!!!!!
One Flaw In Women
Women have strengths that amaze men.....
They bear hardships and they carry burdens,
but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy
and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in..
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer
when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel
and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about
a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member,
yet they are strong when they
think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss
can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you
to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what
makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideas.
They give moral support to their
family and friends.
Women have vital things to say
and everything to give.
HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN,
IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.
Please pass this along to all your women friends and relatives to remind them just how amazing they are.

La Salle College 喇沙書院, is a boys' secondary school in Hong Kong. It was established by the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a Roman Catholic religious-teaching order founded by St. John Baptist De La Salle.
La Salle College is one of the limited number of schools in Hong Kong that teach in English.
The school curriculum uses English as medium of instruction in all
subjects with the exception of Chinese-related subjects and French.
School Spirit
The Interschool Athletics Meet
takes place every year in March. It is not only an external sports
event, but also an opportunity for all La Salle students to show their
Lasallian spirit. Most of the top schools take part in this event and
ever since the commencement, La Salle and Diocesan Boys' School
have been competing to run for championship in the competition. In the
academic year of 2007-2008, Diocesan Boys' School was the champion
while La Salle came first runner-up, after receiving the Bauhinia Bowl
for 8 consecutive years. La Salle College also holds the record of
receiving the Rose Bowl, predecessor of the Bauhinia Bowl, for the
longest period of 17 years between 1974 and 1991.
Prayers
Classes maintain the tradition of praying before almost every class
(depending on the teacher). The prayers are usually led by students on
duty, Catholic boys or sometimes the teacher, and commonly include a Hail Mary, Glory Be to the Father or The Lord's Prayer,
and the prayer is closed with the unique Lasallian lines: "St. John
Baptist de La Salle - Pray for us; Live Jesus in our hearts - Forever".

These are the first pictures I have seen regarding that very subject. This is something that is a very real and very serious concern as you will see.. Ladies please make it a habit from this point forward to wash your just purchased undergarments before wearing them or spinning them in the dryer. This is sensitive. Please share with as many women and men that you know. Our undergarments are made in different parts of the country , sit in boxes and go through many hands and exchanges before we purchase them for ourselves.

The old home town looks the same as I step down from the train,
and there to meet me is my Mama and Papa.
Down the road I look and there runs Mary hair of gold and lips like cherries.
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes, they'll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly.
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
The old house is still standing tho' the paint is cracked and dry,
and there's that old oak tree I used to play on.
Down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary, hair of gold and lips like cherries.
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes, they'll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly.
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
[spoken:]
Then I awake and look around me, at four grey wall surround me
and I realize that I was only dreaming.
For there's a guard and there's a sad old padre -
arm in arm we'll walk at daybreak.
Again I touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes, they'll all come to see me in the shade of that old oak tree
as they lay me neath the green, green grass of home
Speak softly, love
And hold me warm against your heart
I feel your words
The tender trembling moments start
We're in a world, our very own
Sharing a love that only few have ever known
Wine-colored days warmed by the sun
Deep velvet nights when we are one
Speak softly, love
So no one hears us but the sky
The vows of love
We make will live until we die
My life is yours and all because
You came into my world with love so softly love
(Instrumental interlude)
Wine-colored days warmed by the sun
Deep velvet nights when we are one
Speak softly, love
So no one hears us but the sky
The vows of love we make will live until we die
My life is yours and all because
You came into my world with love so softly love
Where do I begin
To tell the story of how great a love can be
The sweet love story that is older than the sea
The simple truth about the love she brings to me
Where do I start
With her first hello
She gave new meaning to this empty world of mine
There?d never be another love, another time
She came into my life and made the living fine
She fills my heart
She fills my heart with very special things
With angels? songs , with wild imaginings
She fills my soul with so much love
That anywhere I go I?m never lonely
With her around, who could be lonely
I reach for her hand-it?s always there
How long does it last
Can love be measured by the hours in a day
I have no answers now but this much I can say
I know I?ll need her till the stars all burn away
And she?ll be there
How long does it last
Can love be measured by the hours in a day
I have no answers now but this much I can say
I know I?ll need her till the stars all burn away
And she?ll be there
White distilled vinegar. This is a powerful deodorizer. And that's exactly why I use it as a base for just about every cleaner. It also works well to dissolve soap film, as well as any mineral deposits from evaporated water.
Baking soda. The word "miracle" is bandied about so much these days. But I'm going to add it to this discussion on cleaning as well. Baking soda is, after all, truly a miracle natural cleanser. Baking soda does more than just absorb odors. It's also a very effective mild abrasive that can be safely used to clean sinks, bathtubs and counter tops. But what makes baking soda so welcome as a cleanser is that it's non-toxic.
Liquid soap or detergent. What kind of liquid soap? I prefer to purchase mine at the health food store. It's called liquid castile soap. If you can't find it easily, ask a clerk. He'll be able to direct you to it. And if not, I'm sure the store would be willing to order it. You can also find it on the internet.
Now you can make the vinegar smell a little less like vinegar. I use a variety of scents from lavender to tea tree. Tea tree oil, in fact, is an effective disinfectant. You may want to keep this mixture handy for such places as the bathroom and kitchen. Not only will your house smell good, but you can be sure that you're removing many, if not all of the germs, at the same time You may be able to find essential oils at the pharmacy counter or grocery store. If you can't, you can always buy them online! Here to access the organic detergents.

This early morning, I checked my emails and found an essential message in connection with the forthcoming mayoral election in Toronto. I would like to share these with my Boomer friends and dear readers. I urge you to read to the end of these important messages below.
For Torontorians, go to vote and vote in line to the teaching of Jesus.
. Torontorians,
Please give a serious thought before you cast your vote. I would suggest to pray first, then vote in lines of Church teaching.
大多市市民,請先祈禱,並依教會的道德觀去選市長。

Subject: PASS ON THE MESSAGE: Yes For Ford, No for Smitherman
Dear all:
This is not a joke. If we had sent a million dollars and air
tickets to smitherman when he was elected years ago, smitherman would
have stayed in Cayman Island in his term as MPP. Then all people in
Ontario could save 2 billion dollars in e-Health mess.
Do you want to repeat the history.. NO WAY --- DO NOT GIVE smitherman ANOTHER CHANCE.
Economy runs as in a cycle, and it goes ups and downs. Thus, I
rarely pick a politician based mainly on his/her economic platform.
However, if you get a law passed, you need to double you time and
effort to delete it. Think about the abortion law.
Those same sex marriage advocates choose their alikes. However, we
are too shy "political correct" to say our belief. THAT IS WRONG.
From the legal and ethical points of view, there are nothing wrong
to say our belief: WE DO NOT CHOOSE SAME-SEX MARRIAGE ADVOCATES.
Please pass on this message to someone you know. Thanks.

I don't like politics but this is important. As we are down to 3
candidates for Toronto with Smitherman having a great possibility to
win- we have to ask ourselves do we want a Mayor who is pro-same sex
marriage ? pro gay /lesbians? I am hoping that all those who knows the
Church's teachings would use this moral issue as the basis of their
decision. Rob Ford is also for cutting # of councilors from 44 to 22.
He recognizes that the city has a spending problem. He appears to be on
the right track but any tax/economic consideration should be of
secondary importance compared to the moral beliefs of the candidates.
Personally, I don't believe in any of the promises given by the
politicians, neither do I know if Rob Ford is any better than
Smitherman.
There is only one thing I know - if Smitherman get
voted, our school curriculum would bound to swing further in favour of
the homosexuals. Legislation would be more unfavorable to the
traditional family / marriage values. Rob has been relatively quiet on
this issue ( smart to avoid controversial issues). At least, he is not
openly endorsing, supporting and encouraging gays and lesbians. That
one factor alone should be enough to help us to make up our mind. If
Rob is not the better candidate, he is at least the lesser of the two
evils.
Please vote responsibly in line of the Church teachings and help to spread the word.

Dear Friends:
At the time of this writing, there are three
candidates contending for the position of Mayor of Toronto; but there
are only two with substantial voter support. Those of you who have a
vote, please weigh your reasons to support one or the other carefully
and exercise it, so that you do not regret your choice later.
A few weeks ago John Bentley Mays, a columnist
for Catholic Register, wrote his piece titled "Anyone but Ford," as
if Ford was the pariah of Toronto politics. What was the crime of Ford
that Mays should cover him with so much contempt? Was he a man of
immoral character? Was he opposed to any Christian teaching? Was he
irresponsible in squandering the taxpayers' money for his benefit or
his friends' during his tenure as a Councilor? Did he lead any
lesbian-homosexual parade of nude or semi-nude people through the main
streets of Toronto? Mays boasted of chairing an all party candidates
meeting with Ford, Smitherman, etc. Mays accused Ford of repeating his
"mantra" that he would cut wasteful expenses at City hall. Is that a
crime on the part of a mayoral candidate? But what made Mays more angry
was Ford's non-committal as to how much money he would spend for making
Toronto a great city shining with its art work. For this one reason,
should a Catholic writer in a Catholic paper use his privileged spot to
condemn someone? My regret is that I did not raise my objection with
the Editor of the Catholic Register at the right time.
Weeks have gone by since that writing. Since
there are only two significant candidates to choose from, if Mays has
his way, he will declare one of the well-known homosexual politicians as the Mayor of Toronto!
But thank God, we have one other Catholic Magazine, the Catholic Insight, that has just published an article advocating its preference of Ford for Mayor, and NOT Smitherman. It is not based on who loves art, or who hates golf, who eats vegetarian or non-vegetarian meals. The recommendation is based on purely moral issues. Please
read the Catholic Insight article attached to this email. When you take
your children to downtown Toronto, would you be happy to see your Mayor
leading a multitude of gays and lesbians, half naked and acting
vulgarly?
From a Christian point of view, or if you are
not a Chistian, then at least from a parent's point of view, to whom
will you give your vote to be your mayor?
YES to Ford; NO to Smitherman By Alphonse de Valk, Editor Issue: Web article
The Toronto mayor's race is upon us.Election day is October 25.
A radical "gay" Mayor for Toronto?
As
early as November 2009 all four Toronto newspapers published articles
and photos of "furious" George Smitherman and "his husband" kissing
each other and holding hands. The Toronto Star rushed in with an editorial (Nov. 10, 2009) welcoming him to the race.
Four
days later, on Saturday, November 14, the same newspaper, Canada's
largest circulation daily paper, carried a full portrait of him in the
centre of its front page, with all of page 6 devoted to someone whom
the author readily admitted is regarded as "a bully."Oh, shouted the Star, Toronto needs "a bully!" A second article also discussed him at length, with another smaller photo on an additional page.
Toronto's Globe & Mail,
which in the 1990's had an openly "gay" editor-in-chief, does not like
to be outdone. On the same Saturday, it carried a photo of Smitherman
holding a cat with the title a "Tamer, Gentler George," accompanied by
a photo a third of a page high on the front-piece of the Toronto
section. Two additional articles filled more than another full page and
carried more photos of George and "his husband," Christopher Peloso.
Both
newspapers played up Smitherman as a homosexual activist, treating this
aspect as an achievement worthy of praise. Comedians, meanwhile
advertised a new musical called "My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan
Wedding" in the Globe & Mail (Nov.14) and on Moses Znaimer's FM Radio, the New Classical Station. Clearly, the overall purpose of the Star and the Globe & Mail
was to marginalize possible opponents of a "gay" mayor as "bigots" and
"extremists," and to normalize homosexuality in the minds of the
readers.
In January 2010, The Toronto Star
declared Smitherman the winner (nine months before the election!) only
to see their candidate's support shrink during the next few months.
Since early fall The Toronto Star
has quadrupled its advocacy of Smitherman. Not a day goes by without an
attack on Ford and/or a laudatory script for Smitherman. Ford wants to
cut spending, Smitherman to increase it. The federal government has cut
its subsidy of Gay Pride Days; Smitherman will make up for it from
Toronto's budget. In 2014 Toronto will host the International Gay Pride
Day and Smitherman, no doubt, will want to subsidize that with millions
of additional dollars.
As
Ontario Health Minister, Smitherman spent over $100 million of
taxpayer's money in two years to give special treatment to those
suffering from HIV/Aids.Toronto's Councillor Joe Mihevc,
and Ontario's Premier Dalton McGuinty, Smitherman's former Cabinet
boss, have jumped on his bandwagon together with a small group of Red
Tories who share his love for the homosexual lifestyle.
Catholic Insight opposes Smitherman
We oppose the candidacy of George Smitherman for mayor.
The
position of mayor is a representative one, representing the citizens of
a city to the rest of the country, and indeed The World. It is a
"value-creating, value-carrying and consensus forming" position (to
borrow a phrase from Margaret Somerville, Ottawa Citizen, Nov.
6, 2009) for society as a whole. The person elected as mayor is seen as
the best person to do this. He or she should unify the citizens, not
divide them from the very beginning. But this is exactly what a
homosexual activist will accomplish.
·Homosexual activity contrary to God's Divine law.
·The homosexual condition itself is an objective disorder (ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil, that of homosexual behaviour);
·The promotion of homosexual activists as legitimate and acceptable role models:
holds
up narcissism as a value to imitate; undermines the nature and rights
of the family; divides the community; promotes pornography; exhibits
vulgarity (as in "Gay" parades); confirms others with a homosexual
tendency to surrender to erroneous opinions when they should resist
instead; misleads youth and society at large; distorts truth, with a
materialist ideology which denies the transcendent nature of the human
person and that person's call to seek eternal life.
While
those attracted to same sex orientation have the right to be treated
with dignity like all other persons, they should not be appointed or
elected to leadership positions.
Liu Xiaobo 劉曉波; born 28 December 1955 is a Chinese intellectual, writer, and human rights activist and a political prisoner in China.
He has served as President of the Independent Chinese PEN Center since 2003. On 8 December 2008, Liu was detained in response to his participation with Charter 08. He was formally arrested on 23 June 2009, on suspicion of "inciting subversion of state power." He was tried on the same charges on 23 December 2009, and sentenced to eleven years' imprisonment and two years' deprivation of political rights on 25 December 2009.
During his 4th prison term, he was awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, for "his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China."
Early life and education
Liu was born in Changchun, Jilin, in 1955 to an intellectual family. From 1969 to 1973, he was taken by his father to the Horqin Right Front Banner of Inner Mongolia during the Down to the Countryside Movement. At the age of 19, it was once again arranged for him to work in a village in Jilin province and later at a construction company. He is married to Liu Xia, who lives in the couple's apartment in Beijing.[citation needed]
In 1976, he studied at Jilin University and obtained a B.A. degree in literature in 1982 and an M.A. degree in 1984 from Beijing Normal University.[8][9][10] After graduation, Liu joined the faculty at Beijing Normal University, where he also received a Ph.D. degree in 1988.
In the 1980s, his most important essays, Critique on Choices - Dialogue with Li Zehou and Aesthetics and Human Freedom earned him fame in the academic field. The first essay criticised the philosophy of a prominent Chinese thinker, Li Zehou.
Between 1988 and 1989, he was a visiting scholar at several universities outside of China, including Columbia University, the University of Oslo and the University of Hawaii.
In a 1988 interview with Hong Kong's Liberation Monthly (now known as Open Magazine), Liu was asked what it would take for China to realize a true historical transformation. He replied in this way: "(It would take) 300 years of colonialism. In 100 years of colonialism, Hong Kong has changed to what we see today. With China being so big, of course it would take 300 years of colonialism for it to be able to transform into how Hong Kong is today. I have my doubts as to whether 300 years would be enough." Liu admitted in 2006 that the response was extemporaneous, although he did not intend to take it back. The quote was nonetheless used against him. He has commented, "Even today [in 2006, patriotic 'angry youth' still frequently use these words to paint me with 'treason."
During the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests he was in the United States but decided to go back to China to join the movement. He was later named as one of the "Four junzis of Tiananmen Square" for persuading students to leave the square saving hundreds of lives.
Human rights activities
Liu Xiaobo is a human rights activist who is little-known inside China. His writing is considered subversive, and his name is censored. He has called for democratic elections, advocated values of freedom, supported separation of powers and urged the governments to be accountable for its wrongdoings. From 1989 until now, he has been sentenced to prison and labor education camp four times for his peaceful political activities, beginning with his participation in the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. When he was not in prison, he was also constantly the subject of government monitoring and being put under house arrest in senitive time.
In June 1989 right after the Tiananman Square protest, Liu Xiaobo was detained in the maximum security Qincheng Prison, and convicted on charges of "counter-revolutionary propaganda and incitement".[4] In October 1996, he was ordered to serve three years of re-education through labor on charges of "disturbing public order" for criticizing the Communist Party of China.
When he was released in 1999, it is reported[15] that the government built a sentry station next to his home and his phone calls and internet connections were tapped. In January 2005, following the death of former Chinese premier Zhao Ziyang, who showed sympathy to protesters of the student demonstration in 1989, Liu was immediately put under house arrest for two weeks before realizing the death of Zhao.
In 2004 when he started to write a Human Right Report of China at home, his computer, letters and documents were confiscated by the government. He once said, "at Liu Xia (Liu's wife)'s birthday, her best friend brought two bottles of wines to (my home) but was blocked by the police to come. I ordered a [birthday] cake and the police also rejected the man who delivered the cake to us. I quarreled with them and the police said, "it is for the sake of your security. It has happened many bomb attacks in these days."[15] Those measures were loosened until 2007, when the Olympic Games were going to be held in China.
Liu's human rights work has received international recognition. In 2004, Reporters Without Borders honored Liu's human rights work, awarding him the Fondation de France Prize as a defender of press freedom.

Charter 08, arrest and trial Conception and diffusion of the Charter Main article: Charter 08 Political protest in Hong Kong against the detention of Liu Xiaobo
Liu Xiaobo actively participated in the writing of Charter 08. Then, along with more than three hundred Chinese citizens, he signed Charter 08, a manifesto released on the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (10 December 2008), written in the style of the Czechoslovak Charter 77 calling for greater freedom of expression, human rights, and for free elections. As of May 2009, the Charter has collected over 8,600 signatures from Chinese of various walks of life.
] Arrest
Late in the evening of 8 December 2008, two days before the official release of the Charter, Liu Xiaobo was taken away from his home by police.[23] Another scholar and Charter 08 signatory, Zhang Zuhua, was also taken away by police at that time. According to Zhang, the two were detained on suspicion of gathering signatures to the Charter.[24] While Liu was detained, in solitary confinement,[25] he was not allowed to meet with his lawyer or family, though he was allowed to eat lunch with his wife, Liu Xia, and two policemen on New Year's Day 2009.[26] On 23 June 2009, the Beijing procuratorate approved Liu Xiaobo's arrest on charges of "suspicion of inciting subversion of state power," a crime under article 105 of China's Criminal Law.[27] In a Xinhua news release announcing Liu's arrest, the Beijing Public Security Bureau alleged that Liu had incited the subversion of state power and the overturn of the socialist system through methods such as spreading rumors and slander, citing almost verbatim Article 105; the Beijing PSB also noted that Liu had "fully confessed."
Trial
I have only exercised the right to free speech, to which I am entitled under the constitution. I have done nothing unlawful. Though charges have been laid against me, I will utter no words of complaint
- Liu Xiaobo, 23 December 2009
On 1 December 2009, Beijing police transferred Liu's case to the procuratorate for investigation and processing;[3] on 10 December, the procuratorate formally indicted Liu on charges of "inciting subversion of state power" and sent his lawyers, Shang Baojun and Ding Xikui, the indictment document.[3] He was tried at Beijing No. 1 Intermediate Court on 23 December 2009. His wife was not permitted to observe the hearing, although his brother-in-law was present. Diplomats from more than a dozen states - including the U.S., Britain, Canada, Sweden, Australia and New Zealand - were denied access to the court to watch the trial and stood outside the court for its duration. Amongst these included Gregory May, political officer at the U.S. Embassy, and Nicholas Weeks, first secretary of the Swedish Embassy. On 25 December, Liu Xiaobo was sentenced to eleven years' imprisonment and two years' deprivation of political rights by the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate Court on charges of "inciting subversion of state power." According to Liu's family and counsel, he plans to appeal the judgment. In the verdict, Charter 08 was named as part of the evidence supporting his conviction.[4] John Pomfret of The Washington Post said Christmas Day was chosen to dump the news because the Chinese government believed Westerners were less likely to take notice on a holiday.
China's political reform [...] should be gradual, peaceful, orderly and controllable and should be interactive, from above to below and from below to above. This way causes the least cost and leads to the most effective result. I know the basic principles of political change, that orderly and controllable social change is better than one which is chaotic and out of control. The order of a bad government is better than the chaos of anarchy. So I oppose systems of government that are dictatorships or monopolies. This is not 'inciting subversion of state power'. Opposition is not equivalent to subversion.
- Liu Xiaobo, Guilty of 'crime of speaking', 9 February 2010
In an article published in the South China Morning Post, Liu argued that his verdict violated China's constitution, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations. He argued that charges against him of 'spreading rumours, slandering and in other ways inciting the subversion of the government and overturning the socialist system' were contrived, as he did not fabricate or create false information, nor did he besmirch the good name and character of others by merely expressing a point of view, a value judgment.
International response Political protest in Hong Kong against the arrest of Liu Xiaobo during the Obama China visit.
Following Liu's detention, a number of individuals, states and organizations across the world called for his release. On 11 December 2008, the U.S. Department of State called for Liu's release;[35] on 22 December 2008, a consortium of scholars, writers, lawyers and human rights advocates called for Liu's release in an open letter;[36] and on 21 January 2009, 300 international writers, including Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, Ha Jin and Jung Chang, called for Liu's release in a statement put out through PEN.[26] In March 2009 Liu Xiaobo was awarded with the Homo Homini Award by the One World Film Festival, organized by the People in Need foundation, for promoting freedom of speech, democratic principles and human rights.
In December 2009, the European Union and United States both issued formal appeals calling for the unconditional release of Liu Xiaobo. China, responding to the international calls prior to the verdict, stated that other nations should "respect China's judicial sovereignty and to not do things that will interfere in China's internal affairs."
Responding to the verdict, United Nations Human Rights Commissioner Navanethem Pillay expressed concern at the deterioration of political rights in China. German Chancellor Angela Merkel strongly criticized the verdict, stating "despite the great progress in other areas in the expression of views, I regret that the Chinese government still massively restricts press freedom." Canada and Switzerland also condemned the verdict. Republic of China (Taiwan) President Ma Ying-jeou called on Beijing to "tolerate dissent". On 6 January 2010, former Czech president Václav Havel joined with other communist-era dissidents at the Chinese embassy in Prague to present a petition calling for Liu's release.[46] On 22 January 2010, European Association for Chinese Studies sent an open letter to Hu Jintao on behalf of over 800 scholars from 36 countries calling for Liu's release.
On 18 January 2010, Liu was nominated for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize by Václav Havel, the 14th Dalai Lama, André Glucksmann, Vartan Gregorian, Mike Moore, Karel Schwarzenberg, Desmond Tutu and Grigory Yavlinsky. China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ma Zhaoxu stated that awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Liu would be "totally wrong".[49] Geir Lundestad, a secretary of the Nobel Committee, stated the award would not be influenced by Beijing's opposition. On 25 September 2010, The New York Times reported that a petition in support of the Nobel nomination was being circulated in China.
On 14 September 2010, Jón Gnarr, the mayor of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, met on a unrelated matter with CPC Politburo member Liu Qi and demanded China set the dissident Liu Xiaobo free. Also that September Václav Havel, Dana Němcová and Václav Malý, leaders of Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution, published an open letter in The International Herald Tribune calling for the award to be given to Liu, while a petition began to circulate soon afterwards.
On 6 October 2010, the non-governmental organization Freedom Now, which serves as international counsel to Liu Xiaobo as retained by his family, publicly released a letter from 30 U.S. Members of Congress to President Barack Obama (the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize laureate), urging him to directly raise both Liu Xiaobo's case and that of fellow imprisoned dissident Gao Zhisheng to Chinese President Hu Jintao at the G-20 Summit in November 2010.[52] Republic of China President Ma Ying-jiu congratulated Liu Xiaobo on winning the Nobel Prize and called on Mainland Chinese authorities to improve their human rights record, but stopped short of calling for his release from prison.
Nobel Peace Prize Main article: 2010 Nobel Peace Prize
Upon hearing about Liu's nomination for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, the Chinese foreign ministry warned the Nobel committee not to give Liu the prize, as they said that it would be against Nobel principles.[54] On 8 October 2010 the Nobel Committee awarded Liu the Prize "for his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China". The Norwegian Nobel Committee president Thorbjørn Jagland said the choice of Liu as the recipient of the prize had become clear early on in the process.
All news about the announcement of the award was immediately censored in China at the time of the announcement though later that day became available. Foreign news broadcasters including CNN and the BBC were immediately blocked after mentioning the award in China. Following government attempts to block Internet and SMS usages of Liu's name,] citizens devised various circumlocutions (e.g., translating 刘晓波 as English "Dawn Wave Liu") to avoid the censorship.[58] The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement that said, "The Nobel Peace Prize is meant to award individuals who promote international harmony and friendship, peace and disarmament. Liu Xiaobo is a criminal who has been sentenced by Chinese judicial departments for violating Chinese law. Awarding the peace to Liu runs completely counter to the principle of the award and is also a desecration of the Peace Prize."[59] The state-run Xinhua News Agency later carried a report saying that awarding Liu Xiaobo the prize defiles Alfred Nobel's purpose of creating this prize and "may harm China-Norway relations". The spokeperson added that Liu had broken Chinese law and his "actions run contrary to the purpose of the Nobel Peace Prize."[60][61][62] The Norwegian ambassador to the People's Republic of China was summoned by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on October 8, 2010 and was presented with an official complaint against the granting of the Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo. A banquet to honor Liu Xiaobo for winning the Nobel Peace Prize by 20 plus Chinese netizens, human right lawyers, and academics was abruptly broken up by Beijing police.[64] Other meetings to commemorate the award were prevented by authorities; prominent intellectuals and other dissidents were detained, harassed or put under surveillance.
There were messages of congratulations from Western leaders, who called on China to reform its political, legal systems and its constitution and to release Liu. European Commission president José Manuel Barroso, The British Foreign Secretary William Hague, U.S. President Barack Obama,[68] and the Dalai Lama were among those who praised the decision, and called for Liu's release.
There was also solidarity with the Chinese view by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez[70] and from Cuba.
Following the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize, Liu's wife, Liu Xia, was placed under house arrest but has not been charged with any offence.
If you ask your kids do they like broccoli, they would tell you 'no'. However, as parents we always advice our unwilling children to eat these veggies. Broccoli consumption has increased 940% over the past 25 years.
Broccoli and cauliflower are cruciferous vegetables. They are rich in phytochemicals. and are extensively studied. These veggies have protective effects against bladder, prostate and other cancers. A population study of 50,000 men over 10 years showed a 51% risk reduction for bladder cancer in those who ate more than 5 servings of cruciferous vegetables a week as compared with those who ate less than 1 serving a week.
Simillarly, another study of 1000 men showed a 41% risk reduction for prostate cancer in those consuming 3 or more servings of cruciferous vegetables a week as compared with those who ate less than 1 serving a week.
Sometimes, we wonder why friends keep forwarding emails to us without writing a word, maybe this could explain:
When you are very busy, but still want to keep in touch, guess what you do - you forward emails!
When you have nothing to say, but still want to keep in contact, you forward emails!
When you have something to say, but don't know what, and don't know how, you forward emails!

When consuming vegetables you should always go for those that are rich
in color. They are high in phytonutrients which are the source of antioxidants. Highly antioxidant foods are broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, and peppers. They offer the rainbow of colors and benefits for your body.
Phytonutrients are nutrients found in the colorful skins of fruits and vegetables. They give the food color and very nice smell. Phytonutrients are the best antioxidant foods. Although fruits and vegetables are the best sources for antioxidants, the problem with them is that they are produced by the use of chemical herbicides, pesticides, and different types of fertilizers.
In the busy world of today, it can be very tough to eat like we should, nor can we eat organic fruits and vegetables all the time. If you can't or don't have access to organic fruits or other sources of antioxidant foods, you should look into nutritional supplements that offer you the phytonutrients you need in your diet.
Brushing and flossing are something we all learn at an early age. The proper way to brush your teeth takes less than 2 minutes, although many people tend to spend much longer, or much less. Most adults tend to spend less than a minute, which isn't enough time to clean your teeth. To get the right amount of time brushing, you should try using a stopwatch while you brush.
When you brush your teeth, you should avoid using pressure but instead use short, gentle strokes. You should focus on hard to reach places, and make sure that you get the areas between your teeth as well. You should also make sure you get eating surfaces as well, along with your upper and lower gums. If you focus on all areas of your mouth, you'll get everything when you brush.
Along with using the proper brushing techniques, you will also need to use the right toothpaste as well. There are a variety of toothpastes available, designed to help you with a variety of different conditions. You can get toothpaste that will prevent toothaches, stop sensitivity, and prevent things such as tartar and gingivitis. Toothpaste is the best way to protect your teeth, therefore you should always ask your dentist what type of toothpaste he recommends for you.
To get the most out of brushing, you'll need to have a good toothbrush. There are many different models to choose from, which can make it extremely difficult to choose one. When you make your choice, you should look for brushes that have soft bristles. Soft bristles are easy on your gums, and they will remove plaque and other debris from your teeth. A small head is also preferred, as it can easily reach hard to get places, such as your back teeth.
You should also remember to replace your brush every couple of months, or when it starts to show signs of wear. If you've had a cold you should replace your toothbrush, simply because the bristles can contain germs that could get you sick all over again. Toothbrushes that show wear should always be replaced, as they can have an impact on your gums. If the bristles start to get worn down, they can tear away at your gums, leading to sensitivity.
To get the most from your brushing, you should always use a bit of common sense and ask your dentist for his recommendations. Brushing your teeth will help keep them healthy, and prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar. Keep in mind that brushing does help your teeth, although you still need to go to your dentist for regular checkups. If you take care of your teeth and brush them on a regular basis - you will keep them free of infections and cavities.
Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix. It is pretty common among young people. The treatment is a simple surgical operation removing the appendix completetly or partially. However, if the appendix ruptures, it will be complicated with bacterial infection. This would lead to peritonitis which is extremety dangerious.
My memory goes back to 2006. I was hospitalized for an acute appendicitis. The first few discomfort symptoms included nausea, some discomfort feeling on the abdomin; and the urge to go to toilet. However, there were nothing to vomit out nor much to poo poo.All these happened on 19th July, 2006 around 12 noon after my lunch having a little bit Greek Salad and a piece of Jerk Chicken.
This pain continued on for the rest of the evening and I have to cancel a meeting with some old buddies and a special visitor Prof H. F Yu (La Salle Old Boy 1964) .I have to apologize to the buddies who went there for the meeting, especially Angelo Lee the organizor.
The next morning at 8:30 am. I felt cold and my body trembled vigorously. I simply could not control my hands and body movement. I took some Chinese herbal medication Po Chai Yuen which is good for geneall abdominal disorders. I have been taking this since I was a child. It helped and I slept a little bit and felt much better physically.
Then at 10.00 a.m. my daughter toook me for the family doctor appointment. The doctor formerly the i/c surgeon of a famous hospital in Hong Kong. He said that I must go for the emergency. There the doctor would immediately do the blood test and CT scan and have the appendix removed soonest.
I got to the emergency for registration at 10:30 a.m, As usual there are lot of clients waiting .
The nurse came and collected blood and urine specimens.
The emergency doctor came and checked my conditions and arranged the CT scan for me for detailed examination of the appendice.
CT scan confirmed I have acute appendicitis and the surgent will come to further check out my body condition.
The surgeon came at around 11:00 p.m. He is very professional in his presentation about appendicitis, my condition and the way of operation removing the infected appendice. He said he could do it right away or early the next morning. I decided to have it done soonest as suggested by my family doctor.
The operation started at midnight and when I was back to the ward it was after 2.00a.m.
The next morning when I waited up I felt great much better than the day before the operation. No pain, do discomfort and much relieved. Then the surgent came and he told me my appendice already became gangrene. I am so pleased that I have the operation on time. As he was leaving the surgent advised me to do more exercise wich is good for the bowel movement and body recovery after the operation.
I spent several days in the hospital. I was admitted on 21st July and discharged on 24th July.
I hope the above gives my readers some basic information that is helpful for them to know appendicitis a little bit better.

An abscess in the tooth refers to an infection that was caused by a pocket of pus residing in the tissue around the tooth. Abscesses are very serious conditions, and can lead to serious matters if they aren't treated immediately. When the pulp of a tooth dies due to damage or decay, bacteria will begin to grow from the dead tissue that is left. This bacteria will eventually spread from the root of the dead tooth into the tissue that is below and create a pocket of pus - the abscess.
Gum disease is also a cause for a tooth becoming abscessed. Gum diseases causes the gums to pull back and away from teeth, leaving pockets behind. When one of the pockets becomes blocked, the bacteria can grow and spread, or get backed up. When this happens, an abscess will start to form under the surface of the gums and become apparently swelling as it gets bigger and spreads.
Once the infection has started to spread, your jawbone may start to dissolve as it makes room for the swelling in the area that has been infected. Once the bone starts to dissolve, the pressure will be greatly reduced, although the infection will still be there. Even though you will get relief, the infection will get worse - and the pain will always come back. Once more of the bone has been dissolved, there will be nothing left to support the tooth, meaning that it will become loose and end up needing to be extracted.
The symptoms of an abscessed tooth are easy to see, as they include severe pain in the affected area, red or swollen gum, a bad taste in your mouth, swelling around the area or the jaw, and possibly a high fever. Pain is excruciating with an abscess, normally affecting the area in a bad way. No matter what you do, the pain seems to intensify.
Abscesses mostly occur with back teeth, although they can happen in the front as well. Once your tooth has become abscessed, your dentist won't immediately pull it. If a tooth that has abscessed is extracted once the infection is still present, it can quickly spread. Your dentist will instead prescribe you some antibiotics that can help to destroy the bacteria.
The dentist can also perform a root canal, in an attempt to remove dead or decayed tissue. Last but not least, he can also drill a hole in the tooth to give the infection a chance to drain and try to remove any dead pulp. The most common treatment with an abscess is to use antibiotics to kill the infection, then get the tooth removed. You should never let it get that bad - as an abscess is something that can destroy your jawbone.
Throughout the world, a lot of people have problems with their digestive systems that make it hard to absorb nutrients and break down the food they eat.
